Grammar:  Passive and Active Voice

I have found in my speech language sessions that none of my high school students have heard the terms “passive voice” or “active voice”.  It seems that Language Arts classes skip passive and active voice when covering grammar.  Meanwhile, writing in the active voice is so important to strong writing skills.  I’ve noticed that the grammar check function on Microsoft Word will underline sentences written in passive voice, and my students don’t know why their sentences are being underlined.  This printable language worksheet, along with its answer key, includes an explanation of passive vs. active voice, followed by two short tasks involving the identification and use of voice in sentences.
